Inhoud
In the first year you have been introduced to projects and lab work in groups, for example during the 1st year project " From mono-ester to polyester" and the course Spectroscopy and Analysis. In these and other courses you have practiced laboratory skills, maintaining a lab journal and written reports. Your practical training will be continued and expanded in the 2nd year Research Project. In this project, you get the opportunity to give direction to your practical training and get to know one of the sub disciplines of chemistry. Moreover, you will improve your writing skills by writing your report in from of an article.
Due to the coronavirus situation, the 2021 version of the research project will most likely be remote. This means that your practical training will be limited to training in understanding, planning the experiments, and interpreting the results. You will still be engaged in a research project, from the planning to the writing phase. Only if and where possible, some of the projects may be done on-site  including practical work. This will depend on the specific project.

Note that there are two different course codes for this project, one for groups from the Debye Institute (SK-BREPD) and one for groups from the Bijvoet Centre (SK-BREPB).
Note that if you wish to register for projects from both institutes, you may register for both courses.

When you register for the course in Osiris you are placed on the waiting list for this course. All students on the waiting list will have access to Blackboard. There you can find the description of the projects and an application form. You choose a number of projects according to your preference. When the number of students on the waiting list exceeds the number of available places in the projects, the course coordinators will randomly select students bases on preferences, time slot and background knowledge. There is no first come first served selection. Otherwise grouping is done according to preference and the options in your schedule (depending on the other elective you choose in period 4). Note that not every project is available in both timeslot combinations. Students that are placed will be automatically registered for the course. Students that are not placed, cannot take part and are removed from the course. The grouping and schedule will be made available no later than two weeks before the start of the course.
