  2. enable you to offer scientifically based opinions on clinical nutrition issues and controversies.
  3. enable you to assimilate and communicate the results of nutritional scientific research.
  4. enable you to apply research philosophy and techniques to advance knowledge and understanding by creating and testing hypotheses through library based research.

Contents
This course focuses on specific dietary components with known benefits for human health and their possible application in disease management and prepares graduate students for practice in later clinical, consulting and industry settings. The course module studies how dietary factors may modulate immune and metabolic function either directly or via modulation of the gut microbiome and how this may impact disease development. Furthermore, it examines the recent advances in specific nutrition therapies for several disease categories. As the field of nutritional sciences is continuously changing and develops at a rapid speed, the key skills to interpret and critically evaluate current literature are integral to this module.

Working Methods
This course consists of Project group meetings on Monday mornings every two weeks (groups of 4-5 students). In addition, on Wednesday mornings ‘Meet the Expert’ sessions will be provided with lectures on recent advances in nutritional concepts that target the gut-lung or gut-brain axis and may link to modification of immune diseases or neurodegenerative diseases. During the project group work you will provide a mechanism based rational and design plus describe a clinical nutritional product and how to test this in a clinical trial setting (clinical trial proposal) based on scientific literature.
