After completing the module the student is able to:
- The need and power of systems approaches.
- Methods for collecting the systems parts (genes, RNAs, proteins, metabolites, etc) and their activity.
- Approaches to build networks and model biological processes.
- Evolutionary mechanisms that have shaped systems and networks.
- Methods for functional analysis of networks in biological systems.
- Work with network motifs and understand their usefulness.
- Determining the research goal of the papers.
- Analyzing the approach used by the authors (methodology/techniques).
- Understand the systems or genomic approach of the papers.
- Understanding the computational analyses and modeling used to extract and understand biologyfrom the various high throughput screens.
- Get the take-home message of the papers (what have we learned?).
- Propose new research lines/experiments as a follow-up of the papers.
