Course goals
After completing the module the student is able to:

  • The need and power of systems approaches.
  • Methods for collecting the systems parts (genes, RNAs, proteins, metabolites, etc) and their activity.
  • Approaches to build networks and model biological processes.
  • Evolutionary mechanisms that have shaped systems and networks.
  • Methods for functional analysis of networks in biological systems.
  • Work with network motifs and understand their usefulness.
  • Determining the research goal of the papers.
  • Analyzing the approach used by the authors (methodology/techniques).
  • Understand the systems or genomic approach of the papers.
  • Understanding the computational analyses and modeling used to extract and understand biologyfrom the various high throughput screens.
  • Get the take-home message of the papers (what have we learned?).
  • Propose new research lines/experiments as a follow-up of the papers.
