  1. masters selected topics in general relativity of relevance for cosmology, and knows the thermal history of the Universe and the importance of entropy conservation
  2. has knowledge of the physics of the electroweak transition and possible scenarios
  3. knows the QCD transition in the early Universe and is aware of modern view on nucleosynthesis
  4. knows the physics of photon decoupling, understands the information stored in cosmic microwave background radiation and has knowledge of cosmological defects
  5. can work with scalar field models of cosmic inflation: their advantages and drawbacks, and knows of the generation of cosmological perturbations during inflation and formation of cosmological structure
Inhoud
"The course begins with an invitation to cosmology, including a review of the main cosmological probes, the current standard cosmological model and future theoretical and observational prospects. Then homogeneous and isotropic cosmologies (FLRW spaces) are discussed, as well as horizons and expansion. Primordial nucleosynthesis is reviewed and the leading candidates for baryogenesis. The course continues with a detailed derivation the formalism of cosmological perturbation theory during the various ages of the universe. Next a detailed treatment of the cosmic microwave background is presented, followed by large scale structures. The course then addresses the problem of the generation of primordial perturbations and the mechanism of inflation. Finally, the course ends with an overview of cosmological probes such as for example galaxies, cluster and gravitational lensing and present the main statistical tools for the data analysis."
