To impart knowledge of the basics of fluid statics, kinematics and dynamics, including the computation techniques.

At the end of this course, the student:

Has gained basic knowledge of the following topics: types of fluid flows, fluid characteristics, statics (isotropy, hydrostatic pressure), kinematics (streamlines, accelerations, deformation, continuity equation), dynamics (laminar and turbulent flow, equation of motion, flow resistance formulae, velocity profile), and long waves (river flood waves, tidal waves, Kelvin waves).

Is capable of applying the underlying computational techniques in an earth-science setting.
