To acquire and improve the editing techniques necessary to craft literary texts with the end of acquiring critical and/or theoretical understanding of prose fiction and one other genre. To achieve an understanding of analytical tools in the discipline of stylistics. To finely hone speaking skills in reading and performing original work. To polish and perfect already highly advanced English writing, up to and beyond effective operational proficiency (CEFR C1) to mastery (CEFR C2).

 

This course uses students’ reading of literatures in English to teach the writing of prose fiction aimed at a mature audience, plus the option of non-fiction, drama or poetry. Neither children’s fiction nor genre fiction feature. Students annotate their work and critically evaluate both their own and their peers’ texts. A process writing approach is taken, stressing rewriting and editing. To this end students read aloud their prose, poetry and drama in writers’ workshops.
