Course goals
Learning objectives
At the end of the course the student is able to:
•      Better understand basic concepts in economics
•      Better understand real world phenomena using basic concepts in economics 
•      Explain in popular terms how economics can explain real world phenomena
Content
This course consists of discussions of accessible academic articles from the Journal of Economic Perspectives or a similar journal. Our meetings will apply what you learned about economics to real world problems.

Format
For each meeting, a topic is chosen and an article from the Journal of Economic Perspectives or a similar journal is chosen as background reading. Each student is expected to read the background reading before class, a single student or group of students (depending on the number of students that enrol) presents the article, followed by a discussion among all students.
 
Assessment method
  • Active participation (100% of the final grade)
The grade students receive for this course is a binary pass or non-pass.
 
Effort requirements
To pass students should attend at least all but one of our meetings and should present at least once.
 
Course materials
Topics will be chosen with students in the first meeting, and links to background materials will be made available to students.
