From academic knowledge to new value creation in professional practice
Utrecht University aims to be a research and teaching institution that contributes to the economy and society. In order to apply its expertise and develop its knowledge it is crucial to connect to businesses and other organisations. This internship enables students to gain experience in applying and developing academic knowledge in professional practice, to create new value and to discover future career opportunities. The internship thus provides the opportunity to experience how academic knowledge can be turned into new value. This internship can be done to complete the Minor Entrepreneurship (for non-economics students). The student is responsible for finding a hosting or supporting organisation and developing the internship proposal. The proposal should contain the activities that will be performed, information about the external supervisor, suggestions for the topic and approach, initial references to academic literature and a suggested planning. The student then contacts the internship supervisor to discuss the proposal and get approval.
After the approval the student will be enrolled in Osiris (a student cannot enrol herself or himself). For more information on business and entrepreneurship education: https://www.uu.nl/en/organisation/centre-for-entrepreneurship .

Assessment method:
•         An assessment interview between the student and the internship coordinator, who safeguards the supervision of the internship on a contents based level;
•         Three weeks after the working period has ended the student must hand in the internship portfolio to the internship coordinator.

The internship portfolio contains:
A report of the internship period. The report should contain the following subjects:
•        A short description of the tasks realised and a self-assessment based on the assessment form;
•        A short description of the organisation and the work area;
•        A case description of the entrepreneurial issues that have been addressed.
•        Positive and negative experiences;
•        Plans and goals based on this work experience.

The student does or does not receive the credits based on the assessment of the content of the internship portfolio and the assessment interview with the internship coordinator.
