Inhoud
A clear understanding of macroeconomics does not only help us understand economic developments at the macro level, but also helps us formulate adequate monetary and fiscal policy responses. This course analyses the economy at the macro level. You will be able to explain developments in economic activity, inflation, unemployment, interest rate in the short, medium and long run and what the impact of fiscal and monetary policy is on these developments and how these developments depend on economic and political institutions. For this purpose you will get acquainted with simple, small, but abstract and highly interconnected macroeconomic models. During the course you will also  confront the predictions of these macroeconomic models with actual facts and data. This way, you get an insight into the relevance of economic theory but become also aware of its limitations. You do this by investigating a topic that is highly relevant in policy circles in the European Union.
