Course goals
At the end of the course, the student is able to:

Knowledge
  1. explain how disordered immunological mechanisms result in diseases or disease processes (autoimmunity, allergy and immunodeficiencies)
  2. discribe the relationschip between tumor and immune system of the host and how this knowledge can be used in the development of new therapeutical strategies
  3. explain the mechanisms of chronic inflammatory reactions
Skills
  1. present a structured, critical survey of one or more scientific articles, at the level of a junior scientist;;
Attitude
  1. demonstrate a critical and inquisitive attitude towards claims concerning animal models and immunopathogenetic concepts
  2. engage into respectful interactions/discussions with other students.

Course description
Deficiency or deregulation of the immune system can lead to a kaleidoscope of clinical features which are genetically determined or induced by infections or cancer therapy.

During this course, lectures and tutorials will focus on four main topics:

1. Immunodeficiencies
2. Autoimmune diseases and atopy
3. Transplantation
4. Tumor Immunology
