Inhoud
In this course students get acquainted with central concepts and theoretical perspectives on the development and implementation of social policies and interventions on a local, national and international level as well as the interplay between social policies and interventions. Different approaches to social policies and interventions are presented and implementation issues discussed. Throughout the course it becomes clear that the development and implementation of social policies and interventions does not take place in a (social) vacuum. Prevailing (local, national and international) political perspectives influence the specific approaches chosen for social policies and interventions. Science, professionals and target groups have their role in the development of social policies and interventions or encourage/discourage the successful implementation of social policies and interventions. To illustrate these general processes several examples from for instance health and education, income and employment are discussed throughout all lectures. One ‘big’ issue in the social domain is the transformation/decentralisation of the social domain, which will also be the discussed elaborately. Among others, the central ideas behind the transformations/decentralisations and the (expected) consequences for governance, social policy (implementation and effectiveness) and target populations are discussed.
