After completing the course, the student:
  • Has knowledge of the basic terminology and notation in calculus.
  • Can solve simple assignments involving trigonometry, differentiation, and other calculus topics.
  • Has knowledge of the basic terminology and notation in linear algebra.
  • Can solve simple assignments involving vectors, matrices, and other linear algebra topics.
  • Can invert matrices.
  • Can solve systems of linear equations.
  • Has knowledge of the basic terminology and notation in statistics.
  • Can solve simple assignments involving probability, normal distributions, t-tests and other topics in statistics.
  • Has knowledge of the basic terminology and notation in algorithm analysis.
  • Can solve simple assignments involving big-O notation, Omega-notation, and Theta-notation.
  • Can analyze the efficiency of an algorithm using summations.

Assessment
Homework assignments during the course. The final grade is the average of the five best homework assignments (possibly with a bonus).
The repair test requires a least a 4 for the average of the five best homework assignments.

Prerequisites
This course is only allowed for students who need to do the course as part of their pre-master.
Enrollment will be arranged by the Department of Computing and Information Science, it is not possible for students to register themselves.

Inhoud

The course Elementary Maths for GMT provides an overview of basic mathematics, and their relation to games and media technology.
It covers most of the necessary high school and undergraduate maths that is essential for GMT.
