After this course:
  • the student has knowledge of and insight in current developments relating to regulation and supervision of markets;
  • the student can place current developments in both a legal perspective and a law & economics perspective;
  • the student is able to discuss Supervision of Markets in the context of the interplay between EU law and international law;
  • the student can reflect on the research subjects on both a theoretical and practical level in a critical in innovative way;
  • the student is able to participate in interdisciplinary academic research;
  • the student can present the outcome of research in English, both written and oral;
  • the student can develop a vision on the broader political and societal context of regulation and supervision of markets.
Inhoud
This course is part of the master program L&E of the Utrecht University School of Economics and School of Law. It is offered in period 2 and is mandatory for both the LL.M-students and the Msc-students.
The course Supervision of Markets aims to provide thorough insight and knowledge into the basic legal principles, institutions and instruments of market supervision. What is the position and the role of supervisory agencies and what instruments do they have to supervise competition in the market as well as address market failures and consumer protection? Central topics of the course are:  the basic legal principles and legal instruments of the relevant EU and national laws; modalities for the introduction of competition, good agency principles and market governance, the role of EU and national supervisory agencies, relevant enforcement processes and practices.
