In this core research seminar, the students will engage in the critical analysis and evaluation of theories, concepts and current academic debates on the entanglement of emergent technologies, various types of embodiment and modes of perception.
Inhoud
This course focuses on the entanglement of bodies and technologies as a key question for media, art and performance studies. Immersive environments, haptic interfaces, strategies of producing presence in games, motion capture technologies – they all produce a type of body-media-spaces in which communication happens through several sensory modalities at once. In this course, we will trace a history of reflection about human-technology interaction and how this history brings out the performative and embodied character of processes of perception and cognition as well as their cultural historical specificity. A closer look at how perception is performed and processual invites a radical non-dualistic approach to bodies, minds and methods.

Career orientation:
Students are trained in the preparation of a contribution to an academic conference and/or journal.
