This course aims at helping students to (further) develop ideas for their individual thesis and to present these ideas in a written thesis plan that meets the academic standards. The course is designed to fulfill this aim through individual and group assignments, class discussions, peer review and teacher feedback. The course focus in particular on how to single out and formulate research questions, how to define and contextualize the corpus of the research, how to develop an adequate methodological plan and how to present the research plan in a thesis proposal.

Inhoud
Performance Research Lab: Act II aims to map out and sustain the students’ individual research trajectories, in order to prepare for the MA thesis. Students learn how to single out and formulate research questions and how to define and contextualise the corpus of their research. Students work on their individual research plans through a coherent series of small in-class and outside class research assignments. Through these assignments, they develop skills in: formulating research questions about their research through a process of engaging with relevant theoretical discourse; contextualising those questions; developing a pertinent methodological plan (with the knowledge acquired in Performance Research Lab – Act I); compiling an annotated bibliography connected to those questions. Regular peer feedback is used as a tool to help students sharpen their thoughts and develop their research. By the end of this course, students will have composed a research proposal and will be ready to start writing their thesis. A draft thesis plan is presented to fellow students and staff before the Christmas break. Feedback on this presentation is then used to write a final thesis plan.
