The successful participant will:
(i) have acquired command of the core theoretical concepts of the study of language acquisition from the lifespan perspective;
(ii) be familiar with the main methodological paradigms used in the field;
(iii) be able to apply these theoretical and methodological insights in a small self-designed research project on language acquisition;
(iv) be able to present research results in an oral presentation, as well as in a short scientific article.

This course provides an introduction to the scientific study of the processes that determine the acquisition and development of English as a second language. Covering language development across the lifespan, this course provides students with the conceptual foundations underlying the study of second language acquisition and introduces them to current debates in this area. Students are also familiarised with the commonly used experimental methods in the field.
