Inhoud
This is an introductory course on quantitative statistics specifically designed for master students of the Posthumus Research Master.
Focusing on aspects of both economic history and social sciences this course will give the students an introduction to using statistics in their own research. The course starts with a general introduction to the basic concepts of quantitative statistics, getting to know historical datasets and how to use historical data to answer research questions. This also includes an introduction to a widely used statistic software (SPSS) to conduct quantitative analyses. The course takes a hands-on-approach: There will be a lecture every week followed by lab hours in which the students can practice what they learned in the lecture, using SPSS. Students will work on (mainly practical) assignments – both assisted during the lab hours and at home.
