In this core research seminar, the students will engage in the critical analysis and evaluation of theories, concepts and current academic debates on the entanglement of emergent technologies, various types of embodiment and modes of perception.

This course focuses on emergent practices in media, art and performance with a particular focus on the entanglement of bodies and technologies as one of their prime characteristics. Immersive environments, haptic interfaces, strategies of producing presence in games, motion capture technologies – they all produce a type of body-media-spaces in which communication happens through several sensory modalities at once. In this course, we will focus on the corporeal dimension of these practices and investigate embodied modes of perception. These practices bring out the performative character of processes of perception and cognition. It thus draws attention to how perception is performed and processual, which invites a radical non-dualistic approach to bodies, minds and methods.

Students are trained in the preparation of a contribution to an academic conference and/or journal.
