Hands-on experience of research on medieval manuscripts, leading in due course to a catalogue of the fragments in the University Library and exhibitions of groups of these fragments.

The University Library possesses hundreds of fragments of medieval manuscripts, many of which come from book bindings. These fragments have never been studied. We will investigate them, trying to date and localise them and to write the history of the individual fragments. We will also study their contents, trying to identify the texts, and, in some cases, visual images and musical annotation contained in them. The results of our efforts will form the basis of a catalogue. We will also use our results in due course in a series of exhibitions.
