Inhoud
This course is a follow-up of Ethical Theory’&Moral Practice which is taught in the first period of the MA program. The course will look at different fields of application of applied ethics and distinguish various activities that are present in the field (or ‘levels of application’): fields can include business ethics, environmental ethics, health ethics, animal ethics, food ethics, professional ethics. Levels of application refer to philosophical reflections on a conceptual level, policy oriented activities, case-based activities and teaching. Students will be acquainted with tools and methods being used in applied ethics and recent developments within these fields. Students will also be challenged to improve their skills to a professional level. This is done in at least two distinct ways. The first part of the course, students are stimulated to improve their (creative) writing skills. Writing for non-philosophy audiences is a skill that will be trained explicitly. Next to that, students will work on a project in a group for a stakeholder. The content of the project varies each year (eg a bank, a journal, an ethics committee).  Students will be challenged to develop their own view on their expertise and skills and need to decide on what type of internship or research project they would like to be involved in (and take necessary steps to make arrangements). An obligatory final aspect that is added to this course (but not marked) is to prepare for the thesis: a crash course ‘how to prepare an outline’ will be given at the end of the course.

Career orientation : Students will be stimulated and trained  to improve their skills that they need in professional practices. An emphasis will be put on writing skills (reaching the non-philosophical audience) and organizing skills that require ethical expertise. Students will get in touch with people in professional practices and will help to organize lecture seminars with eg alumni.
