Students who pass this course:
• possess a solid understanding of major current issues in the study of the medieval Celtic languages;
• can undertake research on one such issue and present that research in oral and written form in a professional manner.
Inhoud
This course is dedicated to study the major issues in the debate about the history of the medieval Celtic languages. These issues include the development of the absolute / conjunct distinction in verbs, the rise of mutations, the rise of palatalization in Irish, the linguistic dating of texts, the reality of Insular Celtic, etc. The course meets once a week for a seminar-type session devoted to one particular topic, the readings for which having been assigned in advance. In addition, the course is team-taught, meaning that different members of staff each lead the discussion for one or more weeks. In the final week, students present an issue and lead the discussion themselves.
The issues presented by the students serve as the basis of their final papers. They can represent a continuation of ideas developed in the Language and History sequence of blocks 1 and 2 or can represent a new strand of thoughts of interest to the student. In addition, it is intended that the final paper be suitable for adaptation as the basis of a research proposal in the 'Research Design in AMR' course in block 4.

Career orienation:
In this course students refine their competency in analysing large and abstract problems, and they enhance their oral and written communicative skills.
