Students who have passed the course:
- possess a solid understanding of Early Irish
- are capable of critically analysing and interpreting Early Irish texts
- are capable of forming an academic opinion about Early Irish texts
- are capable of presenting orally and in writing an assessement of an Early Irish text

A solid understanding of Early Irish is necessary for Medieval Celtic studies. Therefore, students in the course read a small selection of difficult Early Irish texts as a means of consolidating their understanding of the language. The focus is on deep reading rather than wide coverage.
