Inhoud
This course addresses theoretical approaches and research methodologies in two core areas of phonology: typology and acquisition, as well as views on the issue of how to connect these areas. First and second language learners' phonological development will be related to typological variation, paying attention to the initial state of L1 and L2 (initial sensitivities, transfer, biases), stages in L1 and L2 development, and the characterization of the final state.
-The lectures/tutorials address theoretical approaches to phonological typology and acquisition (L1 and L2). Topics include: prosodic typology (intonation; focus marking, syllable structure, metrical typology); relations between typology and acquisition; learnability; infant speech perception; children's early production; L2 phonology (perception and production).
-The tutorials provide students with knowledge of advanced research skills in the area of phonological typology and/or phonological acquisition (L1 and L2); students will obtain some experience with a proper selection of methods and techniques; students learn to report the results in the form of a research article.
