This course has the aim to introduce students to the first phase of historical research: the formulation of research questions and strategies. What is an interesting topic? What are relevant research questions? How to develop a research strategy that will help to contribute to the solution of historical problems?

In order to find out how to formulate urgent historical questions, we will analyse a number of studies and debates from the major subdisciplines of modern history as a way to evaluate the state of the historical debate students are invited to engage with.
