This course aims to develop academic and professional ethics. In this practical course (lab), students explore the field of work – and the great diversity of professions – of cultural historians. Additionally, students learn to position themselves within the relevant field of work. They become acquainted with the (cultural) field in all its diversity - from museums and auctions to educational facilities and public history and the shape it takes in all sorts of media (journalism, radio, internet and tourism). In order to achieve this, students set up work visits/excursions to (cultural) institutions. Subsequently, they make an analysis of the selected profession based on interviews they have conducted with key figures they meet during their visit. Finally, students design an extensive personal portfolio (including a CV and letter of application) they will be able to use to position and present themselves in the professional environment where their ambition lays.

Students acquire knowledge of and insight into the structure and general procedures of the professional field of cultural history; learn to position him/herself in that field and practises professional skills which are necessary in these fields.
Career Orientation
This course gives students an overview of the potential fields of work for cultural historians and helps them practise the skills they need to enter these fields.
