(i) To provide an overview of the different types of interventions, policies and actions that aim to resolve or end intractable conflict. (ii) To improve your understanding of key debates about these interventions and policies. (iii) To improve your knowledge of different approaches to analyze these interventions and policies using different analytical lenses, including more traditional approaches (policy cycle), rational choice approaches, and interpretative approaches.

This course deals with different forms of policy, public action and international intervention and ‘engineering’ in and on situations of virulent conflict and/or endemic violence. It pays attention to the main debates about the policies and interventions of international actors in conflict affected countries, and discusses different ways to analyze these policies.
