Students will become familiar with the scientific study of second language acquisition and learn core theoretical concepts and methodological paradigms in the field; they will broaden their understanding of the processes at work in their own second language acquisition; develop academic writing skills and acquire appropriate vocabulary.

This course provides an introduction to the scientific study of the processes that determine the acquisition and development of English as a second language. Covering language development across the lifespan, this course provides students with the conceptual foundations underlying the study of second language acquisition and introduces them to current debates in this area. Students are also familiarised with the more commonly used experimental methods in the field.
