Inhoud
This course introduces students to English grammar and pronunciation from both a prescriptive and a descriptive point of view. We will discuss grammar and pronunciation from a modern-day prescriptive perspective, which will enable students to improve their pronunciation and grammar skills and learn how to produce different types of written texts. The course will also introduce students to the structure of English and to the accent and grammatical variation found in different varieties of English within a World Englishes framework. Students will also learn how English grammar and pronunciation have developed over time and how this has affected different varieties of English.
Note: Students who have already learnt a variety of North American English will be allocated to a separate group dedicated to the teaching of General American. These students should buy Accepted American English (which teaches General American pronunciation) instead of sounding better (which teaches British Received Pronunciation). This coursebook can be ordered from www.walvaboek.nl.
