Content
This course charts origins and techniques of the making and combining of Music, Dance and Drama. The insights gained are applied to learning from and about making performance art here and now. Where the level 1 course focuses on discovering and experiencing performing and performance, in this course we concern ourselves more as initiators and shapers of performance imagery in word, music and motion. Once again the approach is practical, learning from the writing – in whatever form - that the group produces. Through undertaking a number of writing/composing exercises we experiment with different sources for our writing (found objects, landscapes, journals, snippets of overheard conversation). This may result in, for example: scripting dramatic texts, writing songs, creating a movement score, building an installation or visually projecting words onto part of a set or a performer or creating a soundscape. More than in the other courses of the performing arts track music will play a significant role. It will be used to help to understand and play with elements of form, storytelling, cooperation and performance as a whole.
Students are expected to learn from not just their own intuition and play but from observing their classmates and the various professional artists we shall encounter in order to develop the use of tools and methods for analysis and composition We encourage them to look at different sources and media of performance making to widen their personal resources. The students develop their skills as collaborators; learning to articulate personal feelings and insights as part of the group process.

Format
Initially the class meets twice a week. However, there are additional workshops and performances that students are encouraged to attend. Towards the end of the semester students are expected to work on their own in developing their performance. The presentation of this performance will round off the course.
