To acquire knowledge of the complicated political, social and cultural developments that took place in the Eastern Mediterranean and Near East in the centuries after the Macedonian conquest.

This course introduces students to the history and historiography of the Hellenistic Period and its main problems. The focus will be on the city of Athens and its relations with the three major Hellenistic empires of the Antigonids, Ptolemies and Seleucids.
