General aims of thismodule are to allow students develop an individual profile by pursuing specialist interests at an advanced level within the field of literary studies under the supervision of a senior researcher. Particular aims will vary along with the topic chosen.
Inhoud
This module is intended exclusively for students in the Research MA Comparative Literary Studies who want to carry out individual research in an area of specialisation not covered by the regularly scheduled seminars in the programme. This module of independent study may be on more theoretical and comparative topics or on specific areas of specialisation within individual language areas; it may also directly involve the current research of the supervisor.
Before the beginning of the academic year, a list of available tutors, their areas of research, the specific topics they offer as tutorials, and in which block, will be made available through the RMA Blackboard environment. Students may follow up to four tutorials, labeled Topics in Research A, B, C, or D.
In advance of the module, the student and supervisor agree on the particular aims of the module, the topic to be researched, and a plan of work.  It is possible to follow a maximum of four such research modules, Students with the ambition to apply later for a PhD position are strongly encouraged to design one of these modules, in consultation with the instructor, around the production of a ‘research proposal’ as an alternative to a final essay and as a preparation for future PhD applications .
Since this module can be followed for a variable number of ECTS, it is also a suitable option for those students with a shortfall in their programme linked to a semester abroad at another university with a different system of calculating credits.
