After completing this course students are able to:
  • show improvement of the English writing and editing techniques necessary to produce literary fiction & non-fiction, drama & poetry,
  • demonstrate an understanding of analytical tools in the discipline of stylistics with the aim of reading and responding to literary texts in the four genres and reproducing the literary style of published authors.
  • read and perform original work with finely honed speaking skills
  • write with highly advanced English writing proficiency, up to and beyond effective operational proficiency (CEFR C1) to mastery (CEFR C2).
Inhoud
Content
The first half teaches literary prose fiction aimed at adults, the second non-fiction, drama & poetry. Neither fiction aimed at children/young adults nor genre fiction feature. Participants are expected to use the OED (online via the library), thesauruses and spelling checkers to produce grammatically and lexically accurate prose.
This course stresses process writing, rewriting & editing as essential to craft.
Students read aloud their prose, poetry & drama in writers’ workshops.
CW’s place in the academy is predicated on acts of practice-led research & students therefore write critical introductions, citing relevant theory, to accompany all assignments including the portfolio.

Aim
Participants:

Format
One plenary class and one writing workshop in groups each week.
