After completing this course students are able to:
  • design an empirical research project in the social sciences, and take relevant methodological issues into account
  • conduct and interpret basic descriptive and inferential statistical procedures and report the findings
  • collaborate with other students, work in a research team, and explain all course related concepts to each other using every day language

Inhoud
Research in Practice is a project based introduction to the methodology and analysis techniques used in social science research. Students are encouraged to actively acquire all relevant information and learn from each other, through in-class group discussions and projects. The topics of this course will not follow the traditional order offered in standard textbooks, but, as the title indicates, will follow the order as needed by social science research in practice. Topics covered include research design, ethics, sampling, measurement, and various analysis techniques for associations between variables and differences between groups.

Format
This course offers a unique combination of interactive, student-based teaching methods. No traditional textbook is used. Students are required to use various resources to search for relevant information and compile their own, private, electronic textbook.
