The course deals
with speech and language processing (perception and production) from a
neurocognitive perspective. We will study and critically discuss recent research
literature. Studies of intact as well as deficient language/speech processing
will be taken into account. In doing so, we will acquire insight in how
linguistics, psycholinguistics and phonetics can be a tool in neurocognitive
research, and how neurocognitive insights can constrain (psycho)linguistic and
phonetic theorizing. Topics that have figured in the course, or hat are likely
to be focused on are, a.o., syntactic processing, semantic processing, aphasia,
dyslexia, first and second language acquisition, Specific Language Impairment,
spoken language production, word recognition, and production and perception of
prosody.
